Ayurvedic

Ayur - meaning Life. Veda meaning Science - Ayurveda is ‘’The science of Life’’

Ayurveda is a time-tested Indian system of healing that has been in existence for some 5,000 years. Literally translated from Sanskrit as ‘science of life’, it is a subtle, all-embracing prescription for how to live our lives, and its message is as relevant today as it was when it first emerged.

Ayurveda works by assessing and treating the whole person, rather than just isolated symptoms, through a holistic toolkit of massage, yoga, meditation, nutrition, and herbs.

Ayurvedic well-being has the power to revolutionise our lives. Embracing what it teaches us can enhance relaxation, sharpen mental focus, help with grief, insomnia and other stressful life situations, change our eating habits for the better and bring honest skincare to our bodies.

Shirodhara treatment

Shirodhara Treatment

Shirodhara comes from the two Sanskrit words “shiro” (head) and “dhara” (flow). It’s an Ayurvedic healing technique that involves having someone pour liquid — usually oil, milk, buttermilk, or water — onto your forehead. It’s often combined with a body, scalp, or head massage.

Shirodhara is said to have relaxing, soothing, and calming effects on the body and mind. Research also suggests that shirodhara may help:

  • improve sleep quality

  • manage insomnia

  • lessen anxiety (when combined with yoga)

  • reduce stress

Therapeutic Ayurvedic herbal powders are crushed in a traditional pestle and mortar and tied into a muslin cloth which forms the medium for this treatment, known in India as a bolus. After warming, oil is applied to the body using the bolus and an Ayurvedic technique known as pummelling.

Extremely nourishing, strengthening and rejuvenating, this treatment is great for sports enthusiasts as it addresses problems relating to weak joints and sore muscles.

Good for: stiff joints and pains; arthritis; inflamed muscles; certain skin conditions.
Duration: 90 minutes.
